SUMMIT MANIPAL MMXVII : DAY ZERO

“A genuine leader is not a searcher of consensus but a moulder of it.”

– Martin Luther King Jr.

The MIT Quadrangle witnessed, on the 30th of March, the opening ceremony of one of the oldest MUNs in the country – Summit Manipal. With a twilit sky and a gentle breeze, the mood was set for an evening of enjoyment and warming up before all the MUN-ing.

The chief guest for the evening, Cpt. Ganesh Karnik – an ex-army man, and now a politician – addressed the gathering of the future representatives of the nation. He emphasized on how leadership is required not only in politics but in all walks of life. From visiting MIT in 1980 for the first time, to hear Usha Uthup perform, to coming here as a chief guest, he spoke about how it’s important to not just take the first step, but take it in the right direction.

The director, Dr. GK Prabhu expressed his gratitude to Cpt. Ganesh Karnik for his words of wisdom, and conveyed his own opinion on leadership and awakening our inner conscience.

With the dignitaries back in their seats and a buzz of excitement in the air, the Secretary General of the MUN, Chetan Singh Rana, banged the gavel and officially announced the summit open.

Now that the anxiety of three challenging days that loomed ahead set in, Chords & Co. came to the rescue. The beautiful medley of music performed by the artists, that livened up the evening, as well as the mouth-watering food,  put the attendees to ease.

An MUN may be just a simulation of the proceedings of the UN, but for those taking part, it is no less than the real deal. Striving to make a difference on issues regarding humanity as a whole, Summit Manipal 2017 is sure to forge the leaders of tomorrow.
