Of Grey Skies and Cool Breezes: An Ode to Bangalore

Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore. The capital of Karnataka. Population: 8.4 million. Stories: Innumerable. A rather cheesy opening to a love letter, but well deserved in my opinion. If you’re from Bangalore, you would know that living in Manipal contributes to home sickness all the more. The grey skies, the frequent mumbles of kannada gothilla, and of course, the benne masala dosas are slight triggers of those memories the city gave you over the years. To an outsider, you probably seem like an obsessed idiot—Bangalore this, Bangalore that, and of course the usual “Bangalore weather is the best”, but I get you.

Do you remember those perfect Sunday mornings? You probably don’t. Well, the city wakes up at 11 A.M so let’s talk about those evenings. The perfect 20 degree Celsius weather coupled with the cool breeze and a hot cup of filter coffee. The days to die for. And assuming you did wake up in the morning, nothing beats the bliss of travelling halfway across town to get CTR’s masala dosa (or frankly, any masala dosa).

Do you remember reaching your destination well within an hour? Neither do I. But then again, thank you Bangalore for giving me a flawed judgment in distance and time (Half an hour is not considered nearby by most people).  This way, I’ve learnt to always make it on time wherever I need to be.

Dear Bangalore thank you for all the wonderful nights at Indiranagar, lazy weekend picnics at Cubbon Park, cheap shawarmas and biryani at Frazer Town, and overall, the perfect simplistic life in a city. You’ll be visited soon.

With a great ton of appreciation,

Your Bangalore-Manipal hybrid.
