Bengaluru on March 10, 2014, witnessed an unimaginable incident that someone probably has not seen in the yesteryears. The wedding of Saifulla and Yasmin Taj got cancelled due to the choice over Biryani. The wedding was supposed to take place at a mosque in KG Halli before which a reception at Golden Heritage Shadi Mahal in Fraser Town was being scheduled on Sunday.
The episode started when the groom’s side was served Chicken Biryani by the bride’s side but they denied the service and demanded Mutton Biryani instead. A verbal fight ensued thereafter which led to the wedding being called off. According to The Hindu, many delicacies were prepared on the day of reception including Chicken Biryani. The groom’s family was upset since they wanted Mutton Biryani to be served instead of Chicken Biryani. This petty issue snowballed into a massive argument with none of the sides ready to back out despite the intervention of the elders.
While all this was taking place, the bride refused to get hitched as the realization hit her. She thought that if the groom’s side is behaving the way they are for such a trivial issue then what would they do in future. Her family also supported her in this decision because they too felt an indication of how unhappy their daughter would be if married here. Thus, they did not rethink their decision of cancelling the marriage. On the other hand, even the infuriated groom’s side for once did not try to convince the bride’s side to reconsider their decision.
While talking to Asian Age, the KG Halli police accepted that they were aware of this incident but could not take any action since they did not find any strong grounds to register a complaint. “We do not want to rub salt on the wounds of both family members by registering complaints against them as it would further damage the possibility of a patch-up. We hope the families will sit patiently and go ahead with the wedding,” the police added. They even mentioned that they had never till date seen or heard a wedding gets cancelled whose bone of contention is Biryani.
Therefore the sole reason for this broken alliance was the clash of egos of both the parties. As of now, the question that remains – Was this Chicken Biryani the hero or the villain of this entire episode?
