Kairos 2019

Manipal Academy of Higher Education’s event for international students, Kairos 2019, kicked off in the afternoon of August 9th. The event was organised by the Office of International Affairs in collaboration with AIESEC, IAESTE, CAM, and IPSF.

The celebrations started with an interactive event at Marena, the University’s sports complex that included a multitude of games as well as a visit to the Idea Cafe in Manipal, showcasing the resources and facilities available to students from the university.

The event then moved to the TMA Pai auditorium, where the hostess spoke of the milestones MAHE has achieved, and offered prayers to the founder, Dr TMA Pai. The Vice-Chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat, and Pro-Chancellor, Dr H S Ballal were invited on stage, where they spoke about MAHE’s efforts to make the various institutions a global platform for students to come in and learn from all over the world. The Director of International affairs, Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan was then invited onto the stage to speak a few words. He spoke about the initiatives that have been taken to make MAHE a globally recognised centre for learning and research, and highlighted the goals of the institution.

Following this, all the international students were invited to walk on the stage. They shook hands with the Vice and Pro Chancellors and cheered for their countries. They then proceeded to take pictures on stage before returning to their seats, after which the vote of thanks was given and the cultural program officially began.

The stage was graced by students from various countries showcasing their talents. The evolution of dance from Bhutan, a stunning gymnastic performance by a student from Poland, a solo hip hop dance performance by a student from Tanzania, a reenactment of a South African tribal ritual, and an English and Chinese duet paired with a contemporary dance performance were among the numerous acts that peppered the evening with excitement.

The night transcended into a typical Indian night with international students putting on a Bollywood performance that had the entire crowd dancing and singing along. The students from Malaysia wrapped the event up with a fashion show and the gala evening ended with a dinner.
