MITFL Futsal Tournament

Sunday, the 31st of March, marked the end of the MITFL Futsal Tournament. Futsal is a kind of football played on hard court, usually on a surface that’s smaller than a football pitch.

The tournament started on the 29th of March with scores of enthusiasts and players taking part at the MIT Football Ground. The initial rounds were held over a duration of three days, with almost 30 teams participating. After some nail-bitingly intense competition, two teams made it to the Finals that was held on Sunday, March 31st.

The Final was between students from Manipal Institute of Technology(MIT) and from Welcomgroup Graduate School Hotel Administration(WGSHA). The game started off with WGSHA enjoying possession and dominating. MIT however, worked very hard and covered the spaces keeping the game tight.

WGSHA snatched the lead just before halftime, showing us some serious skill and followed up with a second going into the break 2-0 to the better.
Coming from the break, MIT pushed and hit the post once and tried to be as aggressive as they could. This resulted in numerous goal-scoring chances including a shot flying off the post. On a different day, that shot would have ended at the back of the net but sometimes luck doesn’t favour even the brave. Chasing the game proved to be too much for the younger MIT team and the leaders stayed firm.

Full-Time score was 2-0. Winners WGSHA.
