Verve 2016: Day 3

It was the third day of one of the most awaited fests of KMC, Verve 2016. With emotions running high and overwhelming enthusiasm, the events were as follows:

    COLLAGE:

Something that is uncertain or whose influence is unpredictable is always named ‘the game changer’. Such was the theme of the collage making contest: Wildcard. Teams of three from all semesters competed against each other. The gooey glue and paper bits were innovatively united to reproduce the theme into a colourful piece of art. The event was judged by Dr. Bharti (Dept. of Pharmacology) and Dr. Vikram Palimar (Dept. of Forensic Medicine).

2nd: Anwesha, Shivani, Ashwini (4th semester)
3rd: Jagrati Jain, Lakshay Rastogi, Anjori Gupta (2nd semester)

    ENGLISH POETRY:

Spinning rhymes is no easy task, as many a poet would yield,

yet the talented contestants set up to bask, in witticisms and poignant deed.

Effortlessly weaving words, magic was hence created, spellbound were ladies and lords, who were in their presence seated.

Fiercely bards clashed, at the English Poetry event,

Until crowned were winners at long last, grinning broad and utterly spent.

2nd: Manisha E.V. (6th Semester)
3rd: Ankit and Tanmay (6th Semester)

    SPENT QUIZ:

Adrenaline pumped as spurts of sportive connections and leaps of movie logic materialized at the Sports and Entertainment (SpEnt) Quiz. A furious prelim round was chased by five high stakes final rounds, with scores changing in a topsy turvy manner, until a clear winner emerged at the home stretch. Tables were pounded and hands shot into the sky at brilliant questions and stupefyingly adept answerers.

2nd: Dipayan Roy, Abhinav Batra (8th Semester)
3rd: Dr. Pavan Bhat, Dr. Sameera, Dr. Arjun Natarajan (TIPS)

    FACE PAINTING:

This event which takes place in one of the most picturesque locations on campus, near the KMC fountain every year, brought out the artistic talent hidden inside every participant. It tests the patience and creativity of all the participants, year after year and is a huge favorite.

1st: Joseph and Nivedita (2nd Semester)
2nd: Umang and Uthara (6th Semester)
3rd: Ayushi and Pariti (4th Semester)

    EASTERN VOCAL GROUP:

Evenings are beautiful, here in Manipal. The participants of Eastern Vocals Group singing just made the evening more charming on Day 3 of Verve 2016! The event was judged by Dr. Madhu Rai (Department of Anesthesiology), Dr. Ullas Kamath (Dean, MMMC) and Dr. Vikram Palimar (Department of Forensic Medicine). The competition was a fascinating one, the individual voices of the participants forming a synchronous melody, just like the shards of a mosaic.

1st : 4th Semester
2nd : 2nd Semester
3rd : 6th Semester

    WESTERN DANCE SOLO:

Western Dance Solo was the second event to take place at the Greens stage for the evening. The participants had the audience’s rapt attention. Armed with energy, the dancers got the crowd to shout for another round of the same.

As the medleys played on and the adrenaline rushed through the dancers’ blood, the audience size increased. This was a testament to the talent of the dancers.

3rd: Ishwari Gupta (2nd Semester)

    CREATIVE VOCAL DUET:

With karaoke and instruments backing the singers, KMC greens resounded with melodies during Creative Duet Vocals. The excitement in the crowd was evident as they cheered and sang along to songs like ‘Pehla Nasha’, ‘Bangaari Pori’ and even a mix of Hindi and English versions of the High School Musical song, Start of Something New. The event was judged by Dr. Abhishek Rao of department of Anaethesia and, Drs. Ulaas Kamath and Ananth of MMMC. Each slot was allowed a time limit of 4 minutes.

1st: Pranav and Saptarshi (4th Semester)
2nd: Sayli and Hong (6th semester)
3rd: Udita and Shreya (4th Semester), Harsh and Gayathri (2nd Semester)

    EASTERN IMPROMPTU DANCE:

One of the most awaited events of the evening was Eastern Impromptu Dance which saw amazing participation from the students as they danced their hearts out to the audience filled with classmates who came out in support of their buddies on stage.

1st: Anushree Baid (4th Semester)
2nd: Jiteshwar (6th Semester)
3rd: Umang (6th Semester)

    EASTERN GROUP DANCE:

The Eastern Dance group saw some mind-boggling performances. There were performances in which the participants had perfect coordination, and others in which there was more comedy in the performance than dance. Nevertheless, this event most certainly added to the entertainment quotient of the evening.

The students trudged back, tired but content after battling it out on yet another day of Verve 2016. After all, only one sem gets to rule them all!
