Wall — Day Twenty-Eight of NaPoWriMo

There are days
When I cannot breathe
When the walls insist
On closing in
On me

There are days
When the world is dark
When shadows cover
My every path
And voices whisper
In my head —
Telling me
That I’m alone
(That I’m a freak)
That there is nobody
Who wants me

There are days
When I cannot cry
For my swollen eyes
Have run dry —
Days when my heart
Twists with dread
For reasons I cannot
Comprehend

There are days
When I wonder if
There’s a point
To all of this
Or if it’d be easier
To simply
Let the world go on
Without me
