Abyss—Day One of NaPoWriMo 2021

The rain drop trickled down the window,
descending into the spaces that propped it.
Few more followed suit,
Chasing after it,
In hopes that they might be able to salvage whatever’s left of their dying friend.

As unnatural as it seems,
That’s what happened between us,
I ran towards you,
At a breakneck speed, in a hope that your arms would be able to stop the feet that lost their sense of terrain.
Meandering through these insurmountable odds,
I took my chances,
Hoping that the safe haven I could see wasn’t a mirage.

Fallacious, it may seem,
To propel you into this other worldly being,
Capable to heal the wounded,
And console the discarded,
But your charm,
Is like Aphrodite,
Oozing out of every part of you.

You speak and the world seems to listen,
their eyes riveted on you,
devouring every letter you utter.
And when you’re done,
Your absence pulls me into an abyss,
Where the silence is deafening,
And the darkness knows no bounds.

But my dear,
This void you’ve created,
Goes far and beyond man’s capabilities to quantify,
Much like the love you supposedly exuded.
And this abyss,
Will be remembered,
As the mythical entity,
That never found their resolve.
