For You, Too

This is a letter to those people who are always there for everyone but somehow never for themselves;

You’re the dependable ones, the ones who are always just one call away, who don’t like saying no when people need you…

The kind of friends that are completely sorted according to everyone else, the solid ones who know what they want and exactly how to get it.

Encouraging the people in your life to ask for help and saying that it’s okay too;

Talking through people’s problems and just being there for them, being patient with them.

Yet, you’re somehow the people whose head is not a kind place.

Always striving for that perfection and the urge to do right, be right, be there;

For everyone.

It’s finally time to learn what wasn’t taught anywhere, anyhow, but it should’ve been:

That it’s okay to ask for help for yourself

You don’t have to keep being strong for other people

You’re allowed to be weak for yourself too

You’re allowed to be there for yourself too

Forever the person who listens to other people’s problems…

Maybe it’s time for your own soliloquy.

Give yourself a chance too:

To say what you’ve just buried deeper and deeper; forestalling your very own self

Submerging that “weakness” (or so you tell yourself) so deep, that you don’t even see it anymore, except in the darkest of days and loneliest of times;

That’s when you decide to let all the demons take swings.

Maybe it’s finally time to make friends with the monsters inside of your head,

And realize that you too deserve that peace and joy you bring into other peoples’ lives.

Maybe it’s time to learn to be patient with yourself as well;

To give healing a whirl by being cognizant about asking for help.

Processing all that’s been repressed, realizing that you don’t always need to be perfect and that you can lean on other people sometimes.

You’ll figure it out…

You always do.

But maybe this time you’ll realize that you don’t have to do it all alone;

Maybe this time you’ll see that other people can be there for you too;

Maybe this time you can accept that you don’t need to be perfect,

You’re human and maybe that means that you’re an amalgamation of flaws, but that’s okay too.

You’re always reaching out your hand for other people,

Maybe this time, you can let others reach out their hands too.

Maybe this time you’ll realize that you can ask for help, FOR YOU, TOO.
