Stairway to Heaven

His fingers strum my rustic strings
My core verberates into an ethereal melodic ring.
These soothing pastoral notes make me wonder
‘Bout my lady, swimming off into the money trail yonder.

I hear the soulful yearning in my melancholic A-minor,
It’s inviting her to the charming west, pervaded by adventure.
While the bystanders are shackled to societal standards
I feel her fear, of being mocked for smoky scandals.

I fret as Jimmy’s touch deftly manipulates me from neck to my body,
While Robert’s addictive crooning renders me with a passion so fiery.
Together we plead her to follow the piper into materialistic inhibition
And allow the May queen to subdue her mind’s ignition.

My electric rhythm seeps into the double-tracked acoustic
Reminding her that when she chooses between two paths, to be holistic.
Even if right now she believes in glittering gold and the Midas touch
I sing to her so that she doesn’t have to climb her stairs on a crutch.

I spill more notes into the atmosphere, attempting to catch her attention
My frantic pace resonates with her wild desire to attain redemption.
The air gets charged from the flames of this opinionated arpeggio
In the midst of which, beneath her stairway, a sombre wind blew.

The setting sun is making all of our shadows grow taller
But these angels talk of hope as they dance to my tunes a little longer.
I rest my strings, let the notes fade away into oblivion,
And I pray my lady knows how to pay for her stairway to heaven.
