Generations Apart — Day Thirteen of NaPoWriMo 2023

A Gen-Z and a Boomer they met one fine day,
And started a conversation in an unusual way,

The Boomer asked the Gen-Z kid, “How is life these days?”
The Gen-Z replied, “It’s lit, just like my favourite cafe!”

The Boomer was confused, “What does lit mean, my dear child?”
The Gen-Z explained with a smile,” It means life’s crazy, spectacular, random and wild!”

The Boomer rolled his eyes, “I just don’t understand,
Why can’t you kids speak like us in words that make sense and are grand?”

The Gen-Z chuckled and said, “You sound so out of touch,
You’re still using expressions from the ’60s so much.”

The Boomer protested, “Our language is the best,
We do not need emojis. We express our feelings uncompressed.”

The Gen-Z was confused, “Wait, what’s your favourite app?”
The Boomer replied, “I do not need that crap.”

The Gen-Z retorted, “Surely you use Facebook or Whatsapp,”
The Boomer replied, “I talk face-to-face like normal people, to any friendly gal or chap.”

The Gen-Z shrugged, “That’s so aimless and inefficient,
We get things done, we multi-task, we’re always proficient.”

The Boomer chuckled and said, “You have a lot to learn,
Life is not just about work; there is also a lot of fun one can gather and earn.”

The Gen-Z sighed, “But we have so much to achieve,
We’re the future; we have to change this broken world or leave.”

The Boomer nodded, “I understand your impulse and your drive,
But do not forget to live, and give life a big high five.”

The Gen-Z kid retorted, “But your generation destroyed the planet,
Now we have to tidy up your mess, can’t you understand it?”

The Boomer agreed and said, “You are right, my young friend,
We messed up big time, but we, too, are contributing to making amends.”

The Gen-Z smiled and said, “Good, let’s work together,
To make this world a lot better, both now and forever.”

The Boomer smiled, “We are not so different, you know,
We both have passion and a willingness to grow.”

The Gen-Z agreed, “We may have different ways,
But we share the same morals and values, which is what counts these days.”

And so, they carried on their conversation, both insightful and funny,
T’was a very oddly inspiring journey.

A Gen-Z and A Boomer, realizing they’re more alike than they thought,
Humanity tying them together like a beautiful, neat knot.

Their differences are highlighted, but their similarities too,
They both had something meaningful to offer, and that’s so true.
