The First Leap Towards Life — Day Three of NaPoWriMo 2023

A weaver bird
Fetching grass, leaves and twigs
And nesting it in a beautiful cover.
The same way a father gathers courage, utility
And strength to form an ideal shelter.

A mother nurturing the newborn with warmth
The same way the finches protect the
hatchlings from sun, wind and storm.

Catching insects and seeds for nutrients
To make the most delicious meals,
A mother catering for the needs of children
And teaching them the way of the world.

Gazing on as they flourish into new birds,
The same way the kids turn into teenagers.
Giving them space in the retort-shaped chambers to develop their wings
The same way a mother teaches and encourages the teens to fly in their wins.

Struggling to fly and getting used to the new body,
Giving the teens the support and backbone they need from their parents.

Teaching them the rights and wrongs from various walks of life
And giving them the knowledge to learn from their mistakes
Hiding under a mask to see a child happy,
Neglecting their scuffles and strife.

Letting go of the child into the world,
Leaving theirs behind.
To proffer a piece of their life to their child
The same way when the bird is ready to fly.

The fondness of a mother turns into admiration
And weakness turns into strength.
To see off their child into the world once and for all.
