Trigger Warning: The following poem includes graphic references to sexual abuse and violence.
What if I never forget
That eerie evening, heavy with dust clouds
As I sauntered down the lane.
An innocent girl, with bouncing curls
Whose thunderous voice would echo through the night of pain.
What if I never forget
The way your nails dug into my wrist
And your mouth covered mine
As you pinned me against an alley
Where even my screams gathered no rally.
What if I never forget
My confusion and your lust,
The way you made me beg with each thrust,
Blood dripping down my thigh,
While I pleaded with the demon, “why?”
What if I never forget
Standing there in the night, so exposed
Naked although clothed
I felt concealed by a veil of darkness,
like satin petals of a rose.
What if I never forget
The woman you forcibly made me
Even if the scars no longer show.
It scares me to death that deep down
What if I never want to forget?
